Dear Sirs,

We would like to use this letter to inform you about the current strike situation affecting cockpit crews at Lufthansa. Yesterday, late in the evening of August 31, the pilot’s union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) called pilots at Lufthansa and Lufthansa Cargo to strike. This all-day strike is scheduled to begin at 00:01 on Friday, September 2 and last until 23:59.

After learning of the strike call, Lufthansa Cargo immediately took measures to minimize any restrictions in flight and handling operations.

Depending on the strike participation of the employed pilots, changes in the flight schedule of Lufthansa and Lufthansa Cargo are to be expected. Details are currently under review, and a special flight schedule is being prepared.

Things to know for you:

All Lufthansa Cargo flights expected to land in Frankfurt on September 2 will take place.

We are also sticking to the B777F rotations planned for September 2, which will be operated by AeroLogic. The following departures are thus confirmed:

LH8044    FRA-ORD
LH8052    FRA-JFK
LH8054    FRA-YYZ-IAH
LH8056    FRA-ATL
LH8076    FRA-LAX
LH8082    FRA-BOM

The A321F service LH8300 to MLA/TUN planned for September 2, operated by Lufthansa CityLine, will also take place.

As a precautionary measure, a transit and export embargo for FWN (tropical fish, worms and shrimp larves) and FZN (other animals like reptiles, birds, zoo animals, fish-eggs for reproduction) has been issued for Frankfurt for the period September 2 and 3.

Depending on the extent of the strike participation at Lufthansa Cargo and Lufthansa and related flight cancellations, freighter and belly capacities will not be available for the transport of shipments on September 2.

We are working at full speed to quickly rebook freight shipments affected by flight cancellations onto the next available flights. The rebooking will be done automatically. We are in close exchange with all parties involved. Our goal is to present a stable flight schedule again as soon as possible.

We still ask you to proactively check the status of the booked flight connection for your cargo on the Lufthansa Cargo website. For this purpose, our network page as well as our API interface getRoutes are at your disposal. Please also use our eTracking service. If your booked shipment is affected by a cancelled flight, please do not deliver it until you know the new booking date.

With regard to shipments and contracts affected by this, please note that these are exceptional events, of which you will be duly informed by this communication.

We ask for your understanding and apologies for the short notice changes in the context of these special circumstances. Please be assured that we will do our utmost to provide you with the best possible service despite the difficulties.

If you have any further questions, please contact your local Lufthansa Cargo team.

Best regards,

Thomas Egenolf
Vice President Western Europe
