Customs Strike in Chile
05/22/2015
« back

Dear all,

Chilean customs is on strike since Wednesday morning. The strike, which is indefinite and nationwide, leads to major disruptions at all seaports, airports and border crossings. See attached notification from the National Customs Broker Association. Authorities have emergency services in place but they are geared towards passenger traffic. The strike is considered to be a show of force by the authorities, which started the day before ‘Día de las Glorias Navales’, a public holiday in Chile which marks the beginning of a confrontation that occurred on May 21, 1879 during the naval stage of the War of the Pacific, a conflict between Chile and Peru and Bolivia.

We will keep a close eye on the situation and keep you informed about any developments.

Best regards,

Rainer Fischer
