Strike in Iquique is over
« back

Dear all,

The strike of the stevedores in Iquique has stopped on June 24th, after a temporary agreement has been reached with their employer, ‘Empresa Portuaria Iquique Terminal Internacional’. During the 25-day strike, the Free Trade Zone ‘ZOFRI’ reported losses as high as USD 12 million per day. The port of Iquique is a major gateway to Bolivia as well as Paraguay. Over 600 Bolivian trucks were stranded during the strike and more than 20 vessels had to discharge their cargo at other ports. While negotiations with the Unions continue, the situation cannot be considered stable.

Best regards,

Rainer Fischer
