The United States has agreed, with both the European Union and the United Kingdom, to a four month suspension of the additional tariffs related to the large civil aircraft dispute:

“The European Union and the United States today agreed on the mutual suspension for four months of the tariffs related to the World Trade Organization (WTO) Aircraft disputes. The suspension will cover all tariffs both on aircraft as well as on non-aircraft products, and will become effective as soon as the internal procedures on both sides are completed. 

“This will allow the EU and the US to ease the burden on their industries and workers and focus efforts towards resolving these long running disputes at the WTO.

“The EU and the US are committed to reach a comprehensive and durable negotiated solution to the Aircraft disputes. Key elements of a negotiated solution will include disciplines on future support in this sector, outstanding support measures, monitoring and enforcement, and addressing the trade distortive practices of and challenges posed by new entrants to the sector from non-market economies, such as China.

“These steps signal the determination of both sides to embark on a fresh start in the relationship.”

Joint US-UK Statement on Suspension of Large Civilian Aircraft Tariffs

WASHINGTON – The United States and the United Kingdom today released a joint statement announcing a four-month suspension of tariffs related to the ongoing large civilian aircraft dispute.

“The United Kingdom and the United States are undertaking a four-month tariff suspension to ease the burden on industry and take a bold, joint step towards resolving the longest running disputes at the World Trade Organization.

“The United Kingdom ceased applying retaliatory tariffs in the Boeing dispute from January 1, 2021 to de-escalate the issue and create space for a negotiated settlement to the Airbus and Boeing disputes.

“The United States will now suspend retaliatory tariffs in the Airbus dispute from March 4, 2021, for four months. This will allow time to focus on negotiating a balanced settlement to the disputes, and begin seriously addressing the challenges posed by new entrants to the civil aviation market from non-market economies, such as China.

“This will benefit a wide range of industries on both sides of the Atlantic, and allow for focused settlement negotiations to ensure that our aerospace industries can finally see a resolution and focus on COVID recovery and other shared goals.”

USTR Extends Section 301 Tariff Exclusion for Certain COVID Related Products

The USTR extended Section 301 tariff exclusions on certain products that are used to treat COVID-19. These exclusions were initially set to expire on March 31, 2021 but have been extended until September 30, 2021.

Section 301 exclusions on Chinese origin COVID-related products will continue using the same Harmonized Tariff Schedule numbers:

• List 1 – HTS 9903.88.62;
• List 2 – HTS 9903.88.63;
• List 3 – HTS 9903.88.64;
• List 4A – HTS 9903.88.65

Excluded products (view the full list here) are not subject to additional Section 301 duties, which range from 7.5% to 25%.

The Customer is aware that delays may occur as a result of the Corona pandemic and that this may mean that delivery dates cannot be met and that unexpected additional costs may arise which were not calculated when the contract was concluded. The freight forwarder is obliged to avoid or reduce these as far as possible. In accordance with this, the customer is obliged to reimburse the additional costs. The freight forwarder shall not be liable for exceeding the delivery deadline caused by the Corona pandemic.
