• A robust global air cargo market has virtually completed its recovery to pre-COVID volume levels inside 10 months, according to airline performance data for February 2021 from industry analysts CLIVE Data Services and TAC Index. For the four weeks of last month, chargeable weight stood at just -1% compared to February 2019 and was 2% ahead of the same month of 2020.

• Most Covid-19 vaccines have wheels, not wings. The dollar or euro sign was already looming in the eyes of airline managers when they spoke of an upcoming avalanche of COVID-19 vaccines to be transported by air – the biggest airlift ever. That was last October and November. Today, four months later, the actual figures are rather sobering.

• On 15 March, the European Union launched a new EU customs pre-arrival security and safety programme, supported by a large-scale information system called ICS2 (Import Control System 2). The programme will help establish an integrated EU approach to reinforce customs risk management framework. It will support effective risk-based customs controls whilst facilitating free flow of legitimate trade across the EU external borders.
